Laura Dekker é uma rapariga holandesa que fez recentemente 14 anos. Nasceu a bordo dum iate, pois os seus pais passaram vários anos no mar, em viagem pelo mundo. A sua história cruzou-se com as nossas, pois atónitos, assistimos à notícia do seu desaparecimento. Foi encontrada um ou dois dias depois, a cerca de 5.000 km de casa, nas Antilhas holandesas e trazida de volta. A razão do seu desaparecimento tem que ver com o facto notável de estar a travar-se uma discussão jurídica, que pelos vistos parece estar a apaixonar a sociedade holandesa, sobre se ela pode empreender aquilo para que diz estar preparada: dar a volta ao mundo em solitária! Antes de mais, surpreende-me o cuidado com a questão está a ser vista pelas autoridades. Todos sabemos o artificialismo em que consiste estabelecer uma idade para a maioridade: há quem não a tenha aos 20, aos 30 até... e há quem com 16 anos seja uma pessoa perfeitamente capaz de decidir com maturidade. A Dutch judge told Laura Dekker, 14, that she must put her ambitions on hold until July next year after a two-month investigation cast doubt on her ability to safely cope with the rigours of a journey that could last two years. The young sailor, who said she was disappointed at the ruling, faces a race against time to train herself before another court hearing in July, but is determined to push ahead. “Initially, her reaction was disappointment,” Mariska Woertman, a family spokesman, said. “But after I explained, she agreed these eight months would be enough for her to fully prepare and convince the court that she is ready.” The record is held by British sailor Mike Perham, who completed the daunting, nine-month challenge in August, aged 17 years and 164 days. Judge Mirjam Oostendorp said the investigation by
