Portrait of a Lady

Came from reading the extensive book by Henry James "Portrait of a Lady". Not entirely read, I must tell, nonetheless about 500 hundreds pages were gone between two big plane ocean-cross trips connecting the USA and Europe.
In an outmost well written way, James places us in the midst of a scenario evolving Isabel Archer, an american young adult that comes to Europe with her aunt for broading her life-scope. Immediately after arriving men fell at her door, proposing to her. She refuses firmly all attemps, scared that her freedom could be menaced by a marital bond. She aspires to travel and discover Europe and makes an attachement to a girl friend who also has this willing to be as independent as possible, an american journalist very  critical to the burgoisie and to the status quo.
I enjoyed the inteligent characters this book collects, their conversations. The plot is interesting and  divided manly in England and Italy. Isabel is a sharp and independent spirit, but will be deceived by a friend and caught by a bad man!
